Endseeker – Global Worming (2023)

It’s about damn time we get a death metal record on the level of Nightmares Made Flesh. Endseeker have been called “Germany’s version of Entombed” by some random guy on YouTube, but I can definitely hear the similarities here. What really caught my attention though, is how damn catchy the choruses were and just how powerful the drumming is on this thing. Not to mention that their frontman truly sounds like he’s going to tear out my entrails and play them like a xylophone. So many of these tough-guy deathcore vocalists could learn something from this level of vocal prowess, instead of sounding like angry drill sergeants. There’s a reason that death metal had such an impact in the nineties and it’s because you had vocalists like this, who not only held their own in that scene, but could be understood. Endseeker are not relying on corny cookie monster growls and that is readily apparent from the start of the disc. You’re not getting fabricated crap here. These guys love the legends of this genre and are trying to make a real goddamn death metal album for once. Instead of shouts, breakdowns and some guy on clean vocals who sounds like he came out of the Backstreet Boys. I’ve heard about 800 fucking records like that in the past year or so, which makes it refreshing to hear a disc like this one or the previous Hypocrisy (Worship).

Just hearing these riff melodies makes me wish I could go back in time and stop deathcore from ever happening. Just think, an entire world where the genre never existed. Death metal just progressed naturally as it should have and the world was a better place for it. While we can’t have that, we certainly have Endseeker here to remind us of what could have been. I simply can’t jam this enough.
